Description
Vigilant is a very special yacht, she was the first 22 Square Metre to be built and registered in the UK, but what makes this boat even more important was that fact she was designed and built by Uffa Fox on his floating workshop/barge on the River Medina , Cowes, Isle of Wight.
Built in 1930, Vigilant was Uffa’s step into keelboat building/racing, he had and went onto be very successful in a number of dinghy classes such as I14s and Flying Fifteens, but the designing and building of this wonderful boat really helped put Uffa on the designer’s map!
On the launch of Vigilant, Uffa sailed her too Sweden to take part in the Royal Swedish Yacht Club Centenary Regatta where her results were not great, most likely to be that this was Uffa’s first entry into keelboat racing.
Over the years she has been restored a number of times, first in the 1970s, then early 1990s and lastly she had a extensive amount of work done at a yard on the Hamble River, where no less then 41 frames were replaced, deck was refinished and a number of other jobs completed (lots if invoices to of works to look through)
We are now looking for a new custodian to take on this extremely important and special boat, this will take her into the next chapter and hopefully to be able to see her racing again.
Currently sat on trailer in Cowes, she is able to be commissioned very quickly or use the winter to finesse her restorations over the years.
