Welcome to the first news article of The Metre Yard!
The Metre Yard, is the creation of Carl Whitewood, classic yacht owner, passionate boat racer and yacht broker for the past 12 years. In this article, Carl gives us a brief insight into The Metre Yard and its vision for the brokerage.
As the world continues to change around us, some might think this is a strange time to launch a new business. Here at The Metre Yard, we love a challenge! Restrictions and physical distancing have led to huge changes in the world, and sailing has been no exception with many of our much loved regattas of 2020 being cancelled or postponed. As we lament the loss of 2020’s sailing season, we must also keep an eye on the future.
Along with the rest of the world, I was carefully watching the news this year and it occurred to me that my friends who have yachts in Europe have been unable to visit them, have struggled finding crew and have spent much of the year without their usual sailing fix, with all the fun and socialising that brings.
There is no better time than now to remind ourselves of how lucky we are to have such wonderful boating coastlines here in the UK, to remember what amazing boat racing takes place in the Solent and that Cowes is home of yachting.
There has been much to learn from this year and I am ready to rise to the challenge. If 2020 has taught us anything, we must be willing and ready to adapt.
