Description

Blue Bird (SWE 124) is a 1981 Pelle Petterson 6 Metre built by Sune Carlssons Batvarv and was one of the 4 Pelle designed boats built in 1981 and is now on the market for the first time in 14 years.

In early 2006 Blue Bird was the subject of a small refit which included a new paint job using 2 pack Jotun, Duropox deck paint, new Ian Howlett designed rudder and mast hydraulics.

Blue Bird comes with number of sails, spares and her own shipping cradle which will allow the next owner to get onto the water into this ever competitive 6 Metre fleet. She has been carefully laid up since 2009, and will need recommissioning and her deck equipment needs to be serviced before she can take to the water once again.

This is a well built and optimised 6 Metre for the large Modern 6 fleet.

History

One of Pelle Petterson’s admired 6 Metre Yachts, Bluebird is now on the market for the first time in 14 years. Pelle designed 22 6 Metres all of which are and have been very successful boats.

Blue Bird (ex Tibnor,  USA 116 Chinook, North Pacific Belle and SWE 103 Tibnorina ) is one of the four Pelle Petterson boats built in 1981. She was originally raced by Carl Butchan in the US as Chinook USA 116 where she placed second in the Newport World Cup in 1983.

Over the next 6 years she was campaigned in the US as both North Pacific Belle and Chinook, racing in the 85 and 87 World Cups, achieving mid fleet positions.

In 1989 she was shipped back to Sweden where a full refit was undertaken, this included a new Keel with wings and a new rudder. There she was renamed Tiborina. It was under this name that she took part in the 1989 World Cup Marstrand, Sweden where she placed top 10 results.

Between 1989 and 2005 Blue Bird stayed in Sweden where she changed hands a couple of times. In 2005 she was sold to the UK/Solent 6 Metre fleet and raced with a local owner in the 2007 Cowes World Cup and local Solent 6 Metre events.

Between 2007 and 2009 she was given a new Ian Howlett designed rudder, painted in 2 pack Jotun paint and duropox deck paint.

She was carefully laid up in 2009 and has remained under a cover until now.

Details of the boat are also recorded on the 6 Metre Archives, which can be found HERE
